Cover Guidelines & Dimensions

You can upload two types of covers: a Story Cover and Feature Cover.

  • Your Story Cover is the main image readers see when browsing the app. This is the traditional vertical cover you would associate with any book.
    • Image size 750x1334 with an aspect ratio of 9:16.
  • Your Feature Cover is what we use when we spotlight your story in the app. This is a horizontal cover that would look like one of the promotional banners you often see in the app.
    • Image size 750x422 with an aspect ratio 16:9.

Supported files include JPG and PNG. If you're having trouble uploading your cover, make sure it isn't something like a PDF, GIF, or any other unsupported file type.

Covers That Get Clicks

Attractive, high-quality covers get more readers’ attention. We’ve got some tips for you to keep in mind while looking for an image:

  • Keep your images free of text. If your cover contains typography, our Content Audit Team will reach out and ask you to remove it.

  • Choose a royalty-free image. There are tons of great stock image sites out there, both free and paid. We really like Unsplash, Pexels, and Stockified, but feel free to look elsewhere!

    • Tip: Use Google reverse image search to make sure your selected image isn't copyrighted or of a celebrity you may not recognize. The above sites are a great resource, but some copyrighted images can slip through!

  • Pick something high-resolution. Low quality or blurry images don't display well in the app, and can cause readers to overlook the potential of your story.

  • Match your cover image to the mood or promise of your story. If your story is about an undercover spy who falls in love with her archenemy, try to show that!

  • Search for images with people in them. Covers that include people tend to catch the eye and hold a reader's attention for a longer period of time.

  • Check out what images are already on Radish and try not to get lost in the crowd. You’ll get a great sense of what kind of covers work well by looking at our homepage.

  • Remember to keep your cover PG-13. If your chosen image violates any of our guidelines, our Content Audit Team will reach out with suggestions on how you can fix it. ⚠️ Images that are not corrected in the timeframe provided will be archived until said changes can be made.

  • For example, Radish does not allow lingerie, nudity/implied nudity, or overly sexual positions. 

 

Prohibited Cover Content

In compliance with the Apple and Google Play Stores, Radish restricts overly erotic or pornographic content including, without limitation, displays of sexual organs or activities, displays of nudity or minimal clothing, depictions of sexual aids and fetishes, and any promotion of sex-related content for erotic stimulation rather than aesthetic or emotional feelings.

The following cover content is prohibited and, per our Content Policy, may be removed at Radish’s sole discretion. This list includes, without limitation, the following examples:

  • Any imagery that depicts sex, sex acts, sexual poses or positions, or implied sexual movements (ex: simulated oral sex, a person straddling another person, a couple in a bed with one person’s head tipped back, etc.)
  • Any imagery that contains nudity, implied nudity, or minimal clothing, such as lingerie or the implied removal of clothing, (ex: A person clearly in the midst of undressing themselves or someone else, topless models -- even if only seen from the back, male models with exceedingly low waistbands, etc.)
  • Any imagery that contains violent content (ex: Images depicting a person bloody or bruised, guns pointed directly at the viewer, excessive gore, any content intended to disgust or shock the viewer, etc.)

Stories rated Mature can have more mature covers than those that aren't, but may not include any of the prohibited content mentioned above, or explicit nudity of a sexual body part.
